Seeing as the smartwatch is the technology of today and is quickly moving up on the techies most wanted list, Adidas, like Nike, is getting on board. Of course they’re about a year behind the competition but better late than never right? Directed at the athletes, Adidas’ smartwatch will also be equipped with GPS along with a few other features like tailored heart rate training and audio coaching via Bluetooth. Adidas VP Paul Gaudio made the announcement and spoke about the various features of the Adidas smartwatch at the recent GigaOM Mobilize conference in California.
However, this smartwatch isn’t as smart as the competition and leaves a little to be desired. It doesn’t feature too much smartphone connectivity for tracking your activity with online communities nor does it allow for music streaming via your handset. It does however feature on-board storage so you can store your music and connect it directly through an A2DP enabled headset, which might be better for some. It’s due to hit the shelves on November 01 for the price of $399. That’s quite a bit steeper than Nike’s option even if does have a heart rate training monitor. According to Gaudio, Adidas didn’t set out to make a smartwatch, but to make the smartest running watch, which to an extent makes some sense.
