Astell&Kern’s AK100 portable Hi-Fi digital audio player is gearing up for a special edition (of sorts) release. The 32GB player will soon be available (Aug 24) in a Wine Red color option for those that prefer their devices to stand out in a crowd. This elegant color makes quite a statement aside from the fact that the player itself is so well designed for reproducing high quality music. The AK100 is capable of hi-res file playback of up to 24 Bit / 192 kHz (WAV or FLAC) and thanks to the Wolfson 8740 digital to analog converter chip, the quality of audio emitting from this device should be nothing short of superb. With 32GB of on board storage the AK100 also comes with not one, but 2 micro SD card slots for additional memory making up a grand total of up to 96GB of space. The 2.4-inch touchscreen IPS display (320 x 240 pixel res) will make it easy to view and play files from playslists and of course view details like Album Art etc.
On the connectivity front it comes equipped with a micro USB port for PC interfacing and installing software updates. Aside from the standard headphone jack, the AK100 also features Optical In and Out sockets. The device is also Bluetooth compliant (v 3.0) with support for A2DP and HFP. 16 hours of playback is what the company assures users thanks to the 2000 mAh battery pack. The sleek aluminium brushed metal casing (79 × 59.2 × 14.4mm) available in the Wine Red option, will be retailing at $558 (54,800 YEN).
