• AU Optronics introduces 1mm bezel on 4.46-inc display screen, world’s thinnest

  • The bezel is often the reason many smartphones, even those with exemplary performances and features, look less pretty. To get rid of this problem, AU Optronics has introduced a bezel that is thinner than the world has ever seen. The Taiwanese company showed off the results of leveraging its super narrow border technology and low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) methods. The 1mm bezel sure does look good but what amazes one is the 4.46-inch screen it borders. To add to the finesse is a 720p resolution. Thus you can expect better text and clearer images. The company has more merits including the development of IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) and AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle panels that range from 3 inches to 15.6 inches for smartphones, e-readers, tablets, ultrabooks, digital cameras, and car displays.

An update: the 4.97-inch Full HD AHVA mobile display with 443ppi density is already in production and so is an ultra slim IGZO-based 10-inch panel with a resolution of 2560×1600.
