Often enough our coffee cups lay untouched because its gone cold too soon, unless you like your cuppa steaming hot. Two young entrepreneurs have tackled this issue with a new product, the Coffee Joulies. This wonder can quickly cool your hot coffee bringing it to the right temperature, and then, more importantly, holds it at that temperature twice as long as it would stay there otherwise. Each Joulie contains a proprietary non-toxic phase change material, sealed inside of a polished stainless steel shell that looks like a coffee bean. This is placed in the bottom a coffee mug (or other container), to which your favourite java is added. The interior material is designed to melt at 140F (60C), absorbing heat energy from the coffee as it does so, allowing it to cool the coffee three times faster than normal. Once the Joulie has cooled down past 140 degrees, it begins to solidify again, thus releasing the energy it stored while melting. This in turn keeps the coffee warm for twice as long as a non-Joulified beverage. For best results, a covered, insulated container is preferred over a heat-absorbing ceramic mug.
A limited numbers of Coffee Joulies, made physically are available to buy while efforts are on to raise funds to start automated production at an existing silverware plant. You can get your Joulies in exchange for pledges on the Kickstarter fund-raising website. At $40 you can take home five, $100 will get you five and a custom Thermos travel mug while for $500 you get a Coffee Shop Pack offering 20 sets of five.
