Corning Gorilla Glass arriving in wearable, 3D-ready avatar
The strength of a glass lies not in its ability to protect smartphone displays alone. That’s not Chinese proverb. It’s just a rant of a really greedy geek. And who isn’t one? So when we hear about Corning Gorilla Glass arriving in a wearable, 3D-ready form, we are more than happy to share the tiding with you. In a press release talking about the company’s co-operation with G-Tech Optoelectronics Corp. (GTOC) to establish a “vertically integrated operation in Taiwan,” it has been announced that the 3D glass-forming technology has attained the “manufacturing readiness”! The 3D-forming technology can greatly achieve precise tolerances and high throughput. Using Gorilla Glass will enable them to conjure glasses with uniform thickness, thus allowing for slimmer, lighter, yet stronger glasses.
As the story goes, we have experts predicting the commercialization of the finished 3D-shaped Gorilla Glass parts this year itself! There is so much more to look forward to now, especially with the Samsung tie up and all.
