Estimate suggests it costs Samsung $244 to manufacture each Galaxy S4
It’s been a week since the launch of Samsung Galaxy S4, the Korean Giant is yet to reveal its pricing but a research firm called IHS has already come up with the virtual tear down of the smartphone. The Bill of Materials (BOM) suggests Samsung is spending almost US$244 to make a single unit of S4 including the manufacturing cost. That makes S4 pricier than Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5 to manufacture. The estimate is based on a tear down of the global version of the Galaxy S4 with 16 GB of storage. It takes about US$213 for Samsung to make S3, $30 cheaper than its successor.

The increased cost is mostly due to advanced components like the larger 5” full HD AMOLED display and faster processor. Apple spends about US$207 to make iPhone 5, though the figures are just estimates, but it gives an idea on how much each company spends to build a pop. Galaxy S4 will be available by April this year and is expected to sell for about US$580
