Apple has gone to great lengths with the iOS 7 to make its new UI looks amazingly beautiful. But one feature which received a huge cheer from the crowd at the WWDC, when the official video was played, was the 3D parallax effect on the wallpaper. It was as instant hit and some even thought it to be a gimmick. It’s no camera trick but what exact hardware is needed to give a simple 2D wallpaper some kickass parallax scrolling effect. Apple didn’t say anything about the feature, some even speculated that the feature needs the front camera to track the eyes.
It isn’t that complicated at all, all the smartphone needs is a gyro sensor to do the trick, and when I say smartphone, yes it’s available on Android for quite a while. Spend just US$ 1.96 and get an app called 3D Image Live Wallpaper, it does the job just fine. The app uses gyro sensor to sense the tilt and skews the 2D wallpaper accordingly to give a sense of depth. I am not sure how much of an effect will it have on the phones performance and battery, minor niggles notwithstanding it is too cool an app to go unnoticed. Check out the video and I’m sure you’ll push the download button!
