Mercedes Benz’s Aerodynamic Truck and Trailer concept magnificently increases fuel efficiency
Trucks have never really been the most efficient of vehicles and more often than not, these humongous pieces of engineering guzzle down gallons of fuel. Well, German manufacturer Mercedes Benz, known for its luxury cars, buses and trucks, think differently. The company has just unveiled the designs for aerodynamically-sound trucks and trailers. Called the Mercedes-Benz Aerodynamic Truck and Trailer, these are designed to increase fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs while making them more energy efficient. Using an air deflector on the trailer’s bulkhead that reduces the distance between it and the tractor cab, the concept truck comes with curved side panels and a paneled underbody, all of which direct air flow to the rear. With a tapered boat tail completing the designs aerodynamic flow, these trucks can save up to 2,000 liters of fuel annually, helping operators save nearly $3,850 in the bargain!
