Preen brings Darth Vader, Stormtroopers to London Fashion Week
Preen have shown-off their Darth Vader-inspired autumn/winter 2014 collection at the London Fashion Week and well, it does pay mind to geeks being fashion-savvy. The ramp was adorned with stylishly clad Sith Lords and Stormtroopers, donning designs by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi from Preen. It’s always exciting to watch two worlds collide and having Stormtroopers at the London Fashion Week is something of a hallmark event. It isn’t long ago when we saw some droids, Yoda, and Luke Skywalker making an appearance at the New York Fashion Week runway last week. That was to bring in the new collection of “Star Wars” dresses by Rodarte.
The inspiration was so deeply etched that even the textile pattern, which was influenced by the designers’ love of Moroccan mosaics, subtly resembled the Imperial crest of the Galactic Empire. Preen celebrated the participation of models, journalists and celebrities with a sign that read “You are a hot sci-fi geek!” The company did deny knowing anything about the New York line. “Obviously, we didn’t know and when we saw it was too late to change,” Preen designer Justin Thornton told Grazia. “But I do think it’s interesting they went for the good characters only and we went for the bad. Who doesn’t love a bad girl, right?”
