Ray-Ban Aviators are Cool Shades for Your Lamp

Ray-Ban’s timeless classic has bedecked the face of many a celebrity, including Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, the legendary Hunter S Thompson, and can now add a hint of celebrity chic to your home. The Celebrity Lamp by Deeply Madly Living is made out of 40 pairs of mirrored aviator sunglasses – originally so-called because they bore the same teardrop shape and smokey lenses of the flying goggles Ray-Ban sold to the Army and Navy. Legend has it that aviator-style sunglasses came into being because military pilots needed protection from the glare of the sun during day missions. In fact, Cruise and Kilmer in Top Gun are probably the only ‘pilots’ that ever wore them. With this lamp, however, you can add a little smokey, film-star aura to your home with the flick of a switch.

Since the original cost of the shade, $1,600, was a little stonking, the designers have reduced it by 90% to just $160. Any takers?
