• Reverse parking with the aid of Kinect

  • The Kinect system in itself was impressive and now that its SDK is out, developers and researchers worldwide are thinking of innovative ways to use the motion sensing technology. Some bright minds from the University of Technology in Sydney have developed a parking system which uses the Kinect as a camera to work as a reverse parking assistant. Unfortunately there is no motion sensing involved here. But who knows, perhaps in the near future we can something like that.
    The Kinect can also be used to display what’s going on behind the car in color camera mode and infrared camera mode (which can be more useful in certain situations). There’s nothing too fancy about the set up at the moment, but it does make you wonder about how else the Kinect can be used in vehicles. Check out the video demonstration above.
