As natural progression would have it, mobile and tablet display sizes are getting larger and the question arises, is that really necessary? Other than just hardware under the hood being upgraded, it seems manufacturers have become obsessed with creating larger displays as well. Take the Xperia Ultra from Sony with its 6.4-inch touchscreen being passed off as a smartphone… it is not! It’s just too large. But the latest from the large screen mobile segment is from Samsung who are rumoured to be working on a 12 inch display tablet PC.
Details on Samsung’s new larger screen tablet are not clear and this could also be mere speculation. One bit of information that seems to be making the rounds is that the larger display tablet would feature a higher than HD resolution. That sounds impressive, I have to admit but it would make more sense were content of this resolution made easily available for everyone. The possibility of the device does however seem likely as display technology is getting better all the time, but lugging larger devices around with you does play havoc with overall portability of the technology. Reports mention October as a possible release date so perhaps an IFA 2013 showing could be in order. Although I maybe a certified vidiot who would still opt for a 42 inch basic LCD over a 32 inch LED HDTV with more features, I can’t say I feel the same way about mobile and tablet screens in recent times. The 4.7-inch display on a mobile and 10.1-inch display on a tablet, I believe are the optimum sizes for working with these respective devices properly.
