Shaka iPhone accessory turns your smartphone into a wind-speed meter
Keeping tabs on wind-speeds is essential, particularly if you’re planning to set sail or go wind-surfing. Well, there were times when checking the wind involved sticking a wet finger in the air, using a windsock or alternatively calling up the National Weather Service. Now, your iPhone can quickly be turned into a full-fledged wind-speed-measurement device with the Shaka, a tiny fan-like contraption that plugs into your Apple smartphone’s headphone jack and helps record wind data. Using an application called the Wind Meter, the Shaka quickly informs users of wind speeds and is estimated to retail at about $59. Also, the manufacturer plans on unveiling a similar concept for Android and Windows Phone-based smartphones to help you have an easier time outdoors.
