• Sony ends production of Trinitron TV tubes after 40 years

  • sony trinitron thumb 450x337
Sony will be stopping production of Trinitron TV tubes later this month, they had stopped making them in Japan a long time back but production continued at factories in Singapore for Central and South American markets. Since its introduction in 1968 Sony has shipped 280 million units including TV and Monitor tubes. It reached its peak in 2000 when the demand exceeded supply as Sony shipped 1.1 million units that year. Sony will now be concentrating on LCD and Organic LED TV’s. Just like the Walkman, NES and the Kelvinator refrigerator a Sony Trinitron has been an integral part of our lives. I can never forget the ‘Its a Sony’ sticker with all those red dots.
