Ford has unveiled a prototype version of the Focus Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) which intends to be ‘Green’ inside out. The automaker has teamed up with Coca Cola to bring soda giant’s PlantBottle technology, which was introduced in 2009 as the first-ever recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottle and uses up to 30 percent plant-based materials for beverage packaging, to the interior of the research vehicle. The seat cushions, seat backs, head restraints, door panel inserts and headliners all have been made using the PlantBottle technology. Ford is the first company to use this technology beyond packaging to create fiber that can be woven into durable, automotive grade PET fabric from PlantBottle material.

We gather you probably know just what happens when Diet Coke and Mentos are tossed together. These hard-coated candies have been known to react pretty explosively in presence of Diet Coke. Fritz Grobe and Stephen Volt used these explosive principles of candies and sodas to break records recently, powering up a car with the two ingredients lately. The duo broke the record for the longest distance covered by a car with Diet Coke and Mentos in its belly, travelling to 239 feet! Called the Rocket Car Mark II, with the duo having built a similar contraption earlier that travelled shorter distances, this version used 54 bottles of Coke Zero and 324 Mentos candies to propel it to a distance of 239 feet. A serious waste of edible fuel if you ask us, the experiment though does go to show just how disastrous it could be to really swallow these candies and down it with a can of Coke!
