Virtusphere delivers the Ultimate gaming experience

by Dhiram Shah

The Russian made Virtusphere is a 10-foot tall, 400+ pound hollow steel sphere with sensors that translate every step into in-game movement. In development since 1996 it uses a headmounted display and handheld controller which allow free immersive exploration and viewing of a 3D world. Players can run, jump, roll, or crawl over virtually unlimited distances without encountering real world obstacles. The large hollow sphere sits on rollers allowing it to rotate through 360 degrees and move freely in any direction – without actually going anywhere at all. The Virtusphere has been touted as the ultimate computer games peripheral. Systems are custom made as per specifications from clients ranging from military to law enforcement agencies to entertainment companies. Pricing for the Virtusphere starts at $30,000.
