We’ve reached that point in technology where the development of X-ray glasses is met without a hysterical snicker… I think. It’s no secret that the tech has gotten a bad rep because of the most ludicrous reason i.e. the potential to see through a person’s clothes. But from the early spy movies to the latest, X-Ray technology has been prevalent even if it were something simply like glasses that let you look for concealed weapons or those that can look through cards to cheat at gambling, to its more sophisticated use in safecracking. In medical professions it’s a savoir and has just gotten a real boost thanks to Evena Medical, a Silicon Valley based imaging technology firm. This company has designed and created a set of glasses that will allow doctors to be able to look under a patient’s skin. This will be great when it comes to finding hard-to-locate veins for IV treatments.

In a stroke of genius, world renowned ad agency, Ogilvy 12th Floor, has developed a unique billboard for British Airways. They don’t just display an advertisement and sit there but interact with the company’s jets flying overhead. The digital billboards are rigged with a custom-built surveillance technology that detects planes flying overhead and changes the current digital display to that of a child pointing at the plane. They also display the plane’s flight number and the route. This innovation is part of the “Magic of Flying” campaign by the airlines, crafted to remind people of how a child views magical flying experiences.

Are cows as intimidated by robots as they have been of cows? Well, TV would vouch for the latter but then what the labs cook is what we see in all its tangible finality. The amazing Robot Cowboys who have recently shown up in Australia seem to be making roadways in cow-control. A team from the University of Sydney’s Australian Centre for Field Robotics has tested a four-wheeled remote-controlled robot called Rover, whose duties involve moving cattle from a field to a dairy. The biggest deal in the whole affair is that the cows did not really freak out, even while being escorted by a mechanical keeper and all.

While this bit of pet-tech, if we can even call it that, might not necessarily be for the regular dog-next-door pet owner, it most certainly has potential for the working dog who put their lives on the line for their best friends i.e. man. This all new doggy coat is just what the life saving canines of the world need, the regular Underdogs, if you will. This, Japan’s first disaster prevention cloak for dogs is, at the moment, only designed for larger dogs, but I’m sure it’ll make it’s way to smaller versions as well sooner or later.

Philips are known to lead innovations in electronics and illumination technologies. Their all new energy-efficient LED lighting solution is just the right dose one would need to put them on the pedestal of innovation. Partnering with carpet specialist, Desso, the company has formulated a new material that could help people in indoor environments, guiding them and eliminating the need for shoddy signboards and the likes. The LEDs are a surer alternative to bright lights and neon signs as they are part of the carpet and can be used only when needed.
