“To mark 50 years of activity in the world of car design, I decided to sculpture a Ferrari to the memory of that great adventure and enjoy it with my family” – so sayeth automotive fashionista Giorgetto Giugiaro who both commissioned and created a project that spilled over into stretching horizons, in that he became concurrently – for the first time ever –supplier and customer of the new car. Rather than being a spellbound step into tomorrow, the ultimate outcome of all this is an expression of today – a Ferrari graced by his initials, GG, followed by the digit 50 by way of epitomizing his debut into the world of car design in September 1955 –imbued by an imposing, unmistakable artistry capturing skyhigh ergonomics and outstanding space on board.

Looks like you’ll need to ditch that DVD recorder you just bought — Sony has sneaked out a dual-layer recording gem. If you wanted to fit a 2-hour movie on a single layer DVD, you needed to drop the quality for it to fit. But because DVD+R ‘DL’ discs have an 8.5GB capacity, you can finally record all your movies off the TV at DVD-quality, instead of going out and buying them. Take that, capitalist movie studios! The great thing about the Sony is that you can record everything to the 80GB hard drive in the highest quality before archiving to DVD — so when the programme has finished you can edit out all the adverts. Even better, the super-intelligent machine sets up chapter breaks when it thinks there’s adverts, so it takes about two minutes to go back and edit it into uninterrupted perfection. It’s so clever that we couldn’t even fool it with a super-fast-cut music-video channel.
Micron unveiled a new imaging chip today specifically designed for use in automotive digital video systems. The chip is targeted at automotive applications such as side- and rearview cameras that help drivers park or avoid children in their blind zone, and cockpit cameras that identify a car’s authorized drivers — and take a video image of would-be thieves before disabling the vehicle’s ignition. Other applications would include side-view cameras sticking out from the nose of a car to help drivers see oncoming traffic when emerging from a blind alley, a 360-degree view around the exterior of the car, or a kiddie cam, giving a driver the ability to see a child in the back seat,” said Curtis Stith, director of marketing for emerging markets in Micron’s Imaging Group. Kobelco Construction Machinery Co. has developed what it claims to be the world’s tallest demolition machine (in handout photo) with an arm able to reach a point 65 meters above the base. Kobelco said it has applied for the machine to be registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, saying it is 15 meters taller than the Tokyo-based company’s earlier model of the same type of machine.
This is the first picture of “Godzilla” – the all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R supercar that will go on sale in New Zealand in 2007. It was unveiled at the Tokyo motor show under tight security as the GT-R Proto concept, a design insiders say is almost ready to be signed off as the production model. Until its unveiling, it was expected to be powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, a reworked version of the 3.5-litre unit in the Maxima sedan and 350Z sports car. But insiders say it is highly likely that the GT-R will use a bigger 3.7-litre V6 engine – a development of the 3.5-litre unit – with twin-turbochargers and an output of 335kW (450bhp) and around 550Nm of torque.
Paper facemasks are typically worn in hazardous working conditions where a large amount of dust particles, bacteria or contaminants are present in the ambient air. However, people with breathing difficulties, such as asthma, struggle to suck air through the paper mask while exhaled air tends to leak past the edges of the mask along the user’s face. This idea is a battery-powered filtrating facemask that has an extended chamber in front of the nose and mouth of the user in which a dual filtration system is housed. The dual filtration system utilizes electronic ionisation and static electricity to neutralize germs and remove air borne particles, such as pollen, from inhaled air.
