We love a good no-fuss vending machine. While the Japanese dabbled with their out-of-the-box apple or banana vending machines and took it a notch higher with the 3D coke vending machine, this next vending machine takes the cake, and we mean that figuratively. The Polk County Library system in Florida has introduced a library vending machine! Though not new in concept, these machines are placed in areas where there is no local library, allowing people to go swipe their library card and check out a book.
Besides reaching out to more book-lovers who don’t have easy access to libraries, the vending machine could encourage more people to get back into the habit of reading a real book, a slow-dying habit in the day and age of Kindles and iReaders.
