Rest assured, we are still blogging tech. This Ice Cream is the next version of the Android 2.4 mobile phone OS, expected to launch in June or July 2011. The news suggests that Honeycomb isn’t intended for smart phones after all and could mean Honeycomb will launch as 3.0, while the smart phone range of OSes will continue on as 2.9, 2.10 and 2.11, etc. Honeycomb comes with a significantly modified UI, and thus perhaps makes sense that Google would want to keep the two platforms distinct.
The name fits as the alphabetical names add up to an ‘I’, from Doughnut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and now Ice Cream. Should be a tasty treat!
