Going by the predictions made by Goldman Sachs, iPhones is set to be grabbed up by more than 14 million people worldwide. The predictions are formulated, based on the results from a recent buying intention survey. The handset branding survey conducted in the US, UK, China, and India reveals that Apple can expect to sell about 4 million iPhones in 2007 and 10.5 million in 2008. The number of potential iPhone buyers is equivalent to 75% of the installed base of current iPod owners, and half of the potential buyers are those who have never owned an iPod. In the US (where Apple ranked as the No. 4 most desired handset brand), 71% of respondents were inclined to buy the iPhone.

The survey also noted that a number of consumers were unwilling to switch their old phones to get the iPhone, with only 30% of U.K. respondents and 15% in the U.S. suggesting that they would make the switch.

How stupid are people? Apple at #4 before they have ever released a phone. Proves that hype and image exceed content and quality.
