AT&T and TerreStar have teamed up so that they can release a smartphone with satellite capabilities. One must understand that the previous satellite phones were capable of voice calls. The new smartphone is called Genus; they could have named it as Genius, just one alphabet more. The new smartphone will combine both standard cell phone connectivity as well as the option to use satellite connectivity. It is aimed for users who are staying in the US, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands and the phone will switch from cell to satellite and vice versa as and when needed. It is expected to get released in the first quarter of 2010 but there is no word on the pricing till now.
