We’d like to call this robot Count DALER but the salutation is but a name. What really impresses us is the amazing ability of the robot to go from a land bot to one that can take to the skies in moments. The robot doesn’t only look like a mechanical bat but also glides around like one. What really strikes the eye is the ruggedness to survive a rather tough landing. The robot simply lands and stays put at the point of contact, before making that eerie movement forward on the mechanical appendages. It’s surely something right out of the rundown lab of Count Dracula in the Van Helsing movie. It manages to recreate the famous batwings by accommodating a build with soft fabric that folds neatly.
All said, the DALER robot is indeed a marvel and a credible brainchild of the teams at LIS, EFPL and NCCR Robotics. The teams attribute the design inspiration of the robot to a vampire bat or Desmondos Rotundus.
