Facebook and Google’s founders set up $33 million annual prize for researchers and scientists

Soon, researchers and scientists will begin queuing up with the products of their ingenuity, hoping to win the recently announced annual prize foundation set up by Google and Facebook’s honchos, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin and Yuri Milner. Called the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences Foundation, this joint venture will present 11 winners with individual rewards worth $3 million apiece on an annual basis to boost research morale and give the world of science an impetus.

The first 11 winners have already been announced and the next batch for the upcoming year will also be chalked down soon. Quoting Zuckerberg, “Our society needs more heroes who are scientists, researchers and engineers.” Art Levinson, the chairman at Apple, has also shown support for the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences Foundation. One thing’s for sure though, this act of charity has sure brought together some of the technology world’s biggest rivals!
