For the iPhone or iPod lovers who regard their device to be more than just a mobile phone or media player but a prized possession, the Tangent PearlBox dock is just what you need. Although personally, I think it looks a bit silly but I know better than to argue with an Apple fan. It’s designed by Jean-Yves Le Porcher et al who wanted to give Apple fans a chance to ‘celebrate’ their device with what was designed to be an elegant display case/portable media solution for Apple iPhones and iPods. The PearlBox comes with a piano style finish on the outside a silky smooth fabric on the inside that makes it look like a Bvlgari necklace should be on the inside. It has an auto-detect feature that recognizes the various devices and you can simply shut the case to switch off the audio.

The PearlBox is equipped with twin 1 inch dome tweeters located in the lid and a single 3 inch dual voice coil woofer in the base section of the Tangent PearlBox. These should help deliver a pretty solid desktop audio experience in an elegant form, if you’re looking to go all out. Since it’s got on buttons, you’ll need the remote control to control anything and everything. It comes with a certified “Made for iPhone” tag, and will be available by November 20th in Japan. The PearlBox from Tangent comes in two color combinations: a high-gloss black cabinet with a red interior, and a high-gloss white cabinet with a silver interior. This overly elegant iPod dock will set you back about $178 (28,000 YEN) that’s no paltry sum.
