With GPS devices entering PMPs and cellphones, there’s very little hope of these devices surviving as stand-alones. However, with a little corporate genius nailed into its back, the company has rolled out a smaller version of the GPS units that can sit comfortable on your bike, or still better, in it. It weighs just a couple of ounces and provides with other information like speed, distance, altitude, heart-rate and of course, the distance to places you want to get to. It can also connect to power meters that are compatible with it, wirelessly.
The Garmin Edge 500 can be charged from USB, which can also be used as a medium for data transfer like maps and charts. It will cost you $250. With a heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor, the price climbs up to $350. It is expected by fall.
