There is a section of people who are puzzled by the fuss and frenzy around 3D printing, but most of us believe that the technology has the power to change the world. 3D printing technology has found its use in almost every industry including space research and medical equipment manufacturing, but 2014 has seen a new taker of the technology. 3D food printers were a great hit at this year’s CES and has become the new trend in the additive manufacturing. Hershey Co. has announced that it has reached to a multiyear partnership with 3D Systems, a company known for its high quality 3D printing solutions, to make some delectable projects using 3D printing technologies for the future.
This new niche is fairly undiscovered and Hershey is the first major food company to jump into 3D printing. 3D printing confectionary into desirable shapes as per the request of customers can take-off in the future and might pay off big time for the chocolate maker. “Whether it’s creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future,” said William Papa, VP and chief research and development officer, the Hershey Co.
