Nearly 25 Italian agents are facing trial in absentia in Milan, Italy, this summer. All this because of their ignorance of technology. The cellular data exposed their operation to carry out the: illegal abduction of an Egyptian cleric suspected of terrorist involvement from a Milan street in 2003. the sagents did not realise that tower location is recorded with the billing data, and that they were leaving a trail of “cellular footprints at the crime scene.” So when the Italian prosecutor digged into the records he was able to identify the agents (by alias), where they had stayed, and even calls they made to northern Virginia (where CIA headquarters is), the US consulate in Milan, a US Air Force base in Aviano, and each other.
