LG introduces 65/55 inch Ultra HD Smart TVs with slide out sound bars


The age of the Ultra HD is here and the competition is heating up between the two South Korean tech makers viz. Samsung and LG. To move things along, the latter has introduced their latest instalment in Ultra HD Smart televisions with 2 new sizes – 55 inch and 65 inch. Each of these new TVs come fully loaded with IPS display panels and LG’s own Nano Full LED backlighting technology. They’ll also feature a cool new motorised sound bar that pops out from under the panel. This speaker that LG has dubbed the sliding speaker is inclusive of a 4.1-channel 50-watt sound system for the TVs. In terms of resolution, both TVs feature 3840 x 2160 and using the four step process also include a Tru-Ultra HD engine to upscale content.

To future proof the TV’s for 4K broadcasts and streams that are soon approaching, the TVs will also feature an LA9700, H.265 HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) decoder for compliance with the higher format. LG’s spokesperson for the US, Jay Vandenbree, said that the 84 inch Ultra HD TV introduced last year met with approval from consumers hence the reduction in size and cost was imminent. Other features also include Cinema 3D and LG’s Magic Remote for voice control.

The 55 inch model will be priced at $5,999, while the larger 65 inch model would ship for $7,999.
