The 600c GPS by Lowrance is a truly admirable navigator. It provides with satellite imagery of many US and Canadian highways, buildings, roadways and important landmarks, covering over 5.5 million POIs and a provision to store up to 1000 additional locations (thanks to the huge amount of memory provided). The maps can be updated using the USB port with any Windows, Macintosh or Linux PC. It also provides with three different display modes: 2-D Track up, 2-D North up and an Elevated 3-D view. The 600c is smart in itself, given that it provides with turn by turn audio and visual indicators, auto zooming, recalculations of directions after a wrong turn, Safety Passenger Mode (where passengers are allowed to use the GPS should the need arise), address searching capabilities and ability to choose a path that avoids toll booths and other checkpoints (now that’s interesting). The handsome device provides with a 640×480 resolution on a 5 inch (diagonally measured), 16bit color screen. Lowrance have been generous enough to provide a massive 30GB hard drive (dedicated to mapping and imagery) with the 600c. An additional 5GB of storage is provided to store MP3 audio files, which can be played with the in-built stereo audio player, and JPEG images.
A FM modulator is used in order to stream music through an open FM radio channel. This feature is solely to compensate the absence of an onboard speaker. The Lowrance iWAY 600c could be purchased for $800. All that remains to be seen is when we can lay our hands on this little genius.
