I love it when cars go green, especially the big brands that design these amazing looking classy yet sporty machines. The latest is the Mercedes-Benz F800 Style concept that looks every bit as masculine as Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan and yet is designed to live peacefully with nature without wrecking mayhem like his awesome movies. This is going to be the next-generation CLS-Class sedan. What I also love about this slick drive is that the rear doors are designed to slide back instead of opening. Accprding to the company this concept design also showcases a new plug-in gas-electric system, which is good for over 400 combined horsepower that would give the car an EV-only driving range of 18 miles. It’ll also have a compact fuel cell/electric setup evolved from the one used in the current F-Cell cars.
Another fascinating feature that the F800 concept would employ is Merc’s Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant feature that will be enhanced to actually steer the car through curves as long as it’s travelling under 25 mph. Another new addition to this fantastic vehicle’s already impressive range is an upgrade to the existing Pre-Safe collision detection/mitigation system. In case of a rear-end collision, the car would automatically apply the brakes so that it won’t necessarily hit the car in front or a pedestrian walking by. How selfless can you get Mercedes? The F800 concept will be showcased at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
