Mitsubishi’s LaserVue 65″ and 75″ TVs will be out this fall

Mitsubishi’s new LaserVue is a rear-projection-type laser-based TV technology; it will be out in 65-inch and 73-inch, with the 65-inch version coming out first. Mitsubishi is still not forthcoming on how the tech works, but other than the “zomg, lasers” aspect and the bit about 200 percent color gamut that LaserVue provides (more than twice that of most traditional HDTVs), little else is known. The sets also run at 120Hz, and boast 500 nits of brightness. Apparently there is not much difference between the display of an LCD and plasma sets. Except the color depth (particularly in the reds); the blacks are black, the brights are bright, and the viewing angle puts DLP to shame. Apparently pricing is going to be more comparable to plasma and LCD than DLP. Also LaserVue draws under 200 watts, about half that of LCD and a third of plasma. Look out for it in the Q3 2008.
