Sure we covered multi touch for computers before whether it was just the idea, or the UK version called ‘The Alternative’ and not to forget the Sensisphere. But until now all we got see in the real world is the coffee table version of Microsoft’s Surface in action. Now however a new development called MultiTouch Cell is claiming to be the first modular multitouch LCD screen. The screen will be available in 32-inch and 46-inch versions in 1080p, and an “HD ready” (1366×768) version at 32 inches. It can be positioned at both horizontal and portrait modes and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. There is one thing that really bothers me about touchscreen implementation with PCs. What if your PC crashed? How would you force an ALT+CTRL+ DEL on a touchscreen? I hope that they figure out these issues if they don’t want people punching on the screens to get the darn thing to work.
Update – Video added after the jump.
The MultiTouch Cell is not going to appear in neighborhood living rooms as the entry level HD-ready 32-inch version could cost around $7,000, with the 1080p 46-incher coming in at about $15,000, phew for that much I could easily work with real photos and real film. MultiTouch Cell LCD touchscreen makes me wonder if we gonna stand or sit to use a PC in the future. MultiTouch Cell LCD touchscreen makes me wonder if we gonna stand or sit to use a PC in the future.
