Following the footsteps of Toshiba, Nec Japan has announced a new brand ‘LaVie Light’ which will include superlight and compact notebooks. The first in the series is the ‘BL100/RA’ which comes in a black glossy case and a pearl white keyboard. Powered by an Intel Atom N270 CPU at 1.60GHz it has 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, Intel 945GSE Express and a 8.6 inch display supporting 1,024×600 resolution. Other features include 1.3 Megapixel camera, 3 x USB ports, Firewire slot, Wi-Fi, Ethernet port and SD card slot. The battery is good enough for 2.6 hours of continuous usage. The LaVie Light measures 250×176.5×31.3 – 36.5mm and weighs a mere 1.17kgs. It is scheduled to go on sale in Japan by mid-November for 65,000 Yen ($ 600).
