BenQ Siemens (SL98), Asus and LG are all working on new concepts of slider phones. One of the concepts conceived sees a slider that features a phone that will have a sliding screen instead of keyboard. One of the first phones to use this design was BenqQ Siemens SL98. But recent patent filings reveal that makers like Asustek and LG have similar concepts in mind. As Unwired View suggests, that the whole idea behind the double screen slider is that we primarily need a phone to function as a receiving and calling device, hence you need to see a small part of the screen. The second screen, which can display the other functions, will help save manufacturing costs.
The new design will also help protect the phone against mechanical damage and have the entire phone surface dedicated for the keypad consequently having better input controls. And when you want the smart phone, just slide up the second screen.
