Here is the new stuff on two new digicams from the mighty Olympus. The EVolt series of DSLRs packs in the EVolt E-410 (pictured above) and EVolt E-510 marked with new enhanced features. Ten megapixels replace the eight featured in the earlier E-400 and E-500 cameras. The TruePic III Turbo ASIC increases the ISO number and reduces the noise. The higher-end E510 features mechanical image stabilization, but both the cameras feature the live-view capability, allowing you to view what you are shooting from the two and a half inch viewscreen. The optical viewfinder to see through the lens is included too. Both the cameras feature new kit lenses and are compact. There’s a 14-42mm f/3.5 – 5.6 (that’s a 12 – 84mm 35mm equivalent), and then there’s a plenty long 40-150mm f/4.0 to 5.6, which is the equivalent of an 80 – 300mm in 35mm nomenclature. They do a lot for image stabilization.
Thankfully the E410 will be available in the States unlike the E400, which was sold in the European market only. Expect the E-410 to hit the market in May, while you’ll have to wait until June to get your hands on an E-510; however pricing is not yet out. But going by their previous trends, they should be more or less in the $700 range with the lenses. We will have to wait and watch.
