Orange plans “Megasim” with 512MB capacity

Orange in collaboration with M-systems, Oberthur Card Systems and LG Electronics plan to launch SIM cards this year which could hold 8000 times the data stored on traditional SIM cards. The 512 Megabyte “Megasim” which can store 130 songs, 3 movies or 80 games, compare this to the traditional 64K SIM card which can store a phone book and couple of text messages. This will be a boon to phones who dont have expansion slots. The “Megasim” when released will surely affect sales of memory cards as with 512MB is more than sufficient for an average user. “The SIM will… remove the need for clumsy additional card slots that are required today to provide storage in multimedia handsets,” the firm said in a statement.
