Bid adieu to sleep-time on long flights! Folks, who call for an access to internet and more geeky services at thousands of kilometers above the earth, can now look forward to fly by Qantas. Provided Qantas is catering to your destination. Australia’s most dominating airline is gearing up to provide in-flight WiFi and laptop power on their forthcoming A380s or revamped 747-400s. Although the laptop power will be offered in some of the new cabins in Boeing 747-400s for premium economy class, the 20 new A380s will render this service in standard economy class too. (A treat for folks like me!) You shall need to wait till this year’s end or beginning of 2008 to avail this essential (if you think so) facilities.

Both the wireless and seat-back internet service will be provided by Airbus/SITA joint venture ONAIR. “Customers in every cabin will also be able to remain connected throughout their flight with wireless connectivity, in-seat laptop power, USB and RJ45 ports allowing them to surf the internet or send and receive emails directly from their seat or personal laptop,” said Qantas marketing director John Borghetti. The pricing isnt officially stated but it is whispered that seatback instant messaging will cost $5 for unlimited use throughout the flight. Web email will cost $8 per flight, with attachments extra, and there will be a measure of Internet access. Laptop users would have WiFi access to the Internet and VPNs. No more excuses for incomplete work deadlines!
