RFID Tag is Technology for Your Runners

RFID-Tag.jpg
Runners competing in races are often given plastic tags to attach to their laces, which record their start, finish and therefore total running times. The RFID tag from UPM Raflatac is somewhat different. Flexible, disposable and easy to attach – no need to unpick and rethread your laces – the RFID tag communicates with ‘readers’ at the start and finish lines of your race to record and store lots of information about how well or badly you do. The tag clicks into action the millisecond you cross the start and finish lines, recording your stats and sending them to a database which calculates your race time and pace.

Despite being lightweight and flexible, though, the RFID tag does look kind of cumbersome and I would be worried about tripping up and ripping it off by accident. Still, it might make a nice souvenir of your run, if you are the kind of person who likes collecting silly stuff like this.
