I love hearing about how technology can be put to use to help counties and people in dire need of it. Like this for example, an ordinary football, or at least one that appears ordinary at first glance, has been designed to store energy while being played with. The ball can store enough energy to power a single LED and also be used to recharge (to a minimal extent) a small battery operated device. The s0ccket ball captures the energy from impact that is normally lost to the environment when the soccer ball is kicked, dribbled, thrown and stores this energy for later use. It’s in a prototype phased just now and being tested with youth in Africa. What’s a real inspiration is that the designers have thought of a seriously innovative way to allow kids to actually play and dispense youthful to get energy. I love it!
