Sony Corp has been contemplating a download-only plan for its next generation gaming console since quite a while now. The manufacturer however has decided to ditch the idea and stick to the good old optical disk drive-based games instead of a network-based console. Having the upcoming console go web-based would enable users to download games, TV shows, music and other similar content off the internet, an idea Sony seemed uncomfortable with. Also, such gaming consoles would spell doom for real-life game stores that depend on optical disk sales to live. Also, Sony has hinted a 2013 launch of the upcoming PlayStation 3 successor.
