Sony Japan has announced the DCR-HC96 successor to the DCR-HC90. It has a 3CCD sensor and 3.31 Megapixel resolution (2.05 for videos and 3.05 for still images) it can record videos in 4 channel surround sound. Also included is a Memory Stick duo slot where images are stored. The battery lasts for 90 minutes with viewfinder use. The unit measures 72x 120 x 91mm and weighs 460 grams. It comes with AC adapter, AC cable, USB cable, 16MB memory stick duo and Wireless remote. The Sony DCR-HC96 will go on sale from February 2nd in Japan for 95,000 Yen ($ 800).
