As obscure as it goes, we can see some intergalactic inspiration driving anti-rust sales in Japan soon. KURE 5-56 is Japan’s very own WD-40, an anti-rust spray that keeps all things free from rust, including space ships. Promoting this wonder-product with the Star Trek analogy, complete with a Japanese Spock, seems to have been the game plan that was religiously followed here. Not all fans of the sci-fi franchise may appreciate the ‘creativity’ here but well, someone’s gone ahead and paid perfect homage. The clips used in the commercial are clearly from the newest movie, “Star Trek Into Darkness”. The inspiration is quite clear for those who know the plot of the movie. For those who do not, head after the jump and we’ll tell you how these two distinct worlds collided on the silver screen.
In one of the very first scenes from the latest movie, Captain Kirk seeks to hide the Enterprise at the bottom of the ocean. However, Scotty, the ship’s engineer, worries that the Enterprise will rust in the sea water. That’s where KURE 5-56 comes in. It acts as a lubricant and anti-rust spray, which is well endorsed by the Japanese Spock who tells Scotty, “You don’t know anything do you?”
