2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR – King of the Road turns up

Just in time to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR, Ford has decided to unveil the 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR at the New York Auto Show. Known as the “King of the Road”, Ford’s SVT and Racing teams teamed up with Team Shelby to render the 5.4L supercharged V-8 with new calibrations, a cold-air induction kit and 3.73:1 final drive ratio. This latest KR will be rated at 540hp/510lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Mustang ever. No more than 1,000 of these special Mustangs will be manufactured, and they will undeniably be the fastest ones yet!

The show car has 20 inch rims, but the production version will only have 18 inch rims. And if you are wondering the origin of the ‘Cobra’ then the dominant name is referred to the 428 Cobra Jet V-8 that was planted under the KR’s custom fiberglass hood.

A convertible model will also be available but the pricing is yet a mystery!
